Social Enterprise Spotlight: Changents
Connecting innovators on the front lines of social and environmental change with people (like you) who want to help them.
changents
We were recently introduced to an exciting start-up social enterprise called ChangentsChangents connects charismatic Change Agents around the world with an Internet generation that demands personal involvement in creating change side-by-side with the personalities that inspire them. Members can build their personal "Ripple" by taking certain actions on the Changents site (such as sending a Change Agent story to a friend) and then watch those actions become waves as people respond across the Internet.

Changents started with a simple idea: find amazing Change Agent stories wherever they are, match 'em up to an immediate action opportunities and spread the good word to everyone who will listen.   Changents brings attitude, entertainment, community, good corporate citizen sponsors and results together in one place.

Helping You Bridge the Gap
Tools, tips, and resources worth checking out

collaborationOne of the most frequent questions asked during our project management training workshops is: "What project management software do you recommend?" Unfortunately there isn't a fast and easy answer to that question.  There are so many project management software applications on the market today.  Finding the right solution can be daunting, so to help you out we've highlighted a few options we feel are worth trying out.

If you are looking for a simple, easy to use solution for tracking tasks, internal and external team collaboration, and document sharing, try Basecamp. (We liked it so much we use Basecamp ourselves.)

The next is Clarizen.  Clarizen allows you to effectively manage all your projects and resources with a dynamic, collaborative solution that incorporates the user-centric, interactive nature of Web 2.0 with powerful project management tools.

If you are looking for a powerful solution, rich with features yet intuitive to use, consider ProWorkflow.  ProWorkFlow enables you to keep accurate time-keeping records, organize, plan, and delegate jobs and tasks while using the timeline to have an overview of company activity.

Each of these solutions offer free-trial subscriptions.

Global Giving: Find a Project.  Do More.  See Results
globalgivingGlobalGiving is an online marketplace that directly connects donors with grassroots projects in the developing world. Potential donors can browse and select from a wide offering of projects, organized by geography or by themes such as health care, the environment, and education.

They recently introduced the GlobalGiving Gift Card, which allow "shoppers" to give meaningful gifts, and recipients to choose the projects they want to support. They have been a huge hit. Parents are giving them to their children, friends are giving them to friends, companies are giving them to employees and clients.

GlobalGiving gives everyone choice, provides a direct connection with powerful work around the world, and enables people to give the gift of giving. What could be more fulfilling during the holiday season?

The Service Alignment Tool
Aligning culture, goals, and people to provide outstanding customer service.

Nonprofits are mission-driven driven by definition, but employees need to be aligned with the mission for an organization to achieve its full potential. Purposeful alignment leads to better hiring decisions, well-trained employees, and stronger leadership that all focuses on fulfilling the mission.

The "Service Alignment Tool" is an easy way to get a snapshot view of how well your organization's daily activities are aligned with the mission and it can help you quickly identify opportunities for improvement.  It was originally designed to help companies assess their customer service, but the concepts are also applicable to nonprofit organizations and social enterprise ventures.

Click here for your copy of the Service Alignment Tool, compliments of our friends at Toister Performance Solutions.

Social Enterprise Academy
Business Advisors, Mentors and Judges Needed

The Social Enterprise Institute (SEI) will be conducting a 'Social Enterprise Academy" starting in San Diego in December.  Approximately fifteen social enterprise organizations - nonprofit organizations that create revenue-generating operations to fund their missions - will be invited to do 15 minute presentation on their business growth concepts. SEI is recruiting business students, entrepreneurs and potential investors to serve as mentors and/or judges.

The Institute is looking for volunteers to serve as mentors and/or as judges for the presentations. We thought this was such a great opportunity, we signed up to help!  We hope you will too.
