Client Spotlight: Maximizing The Impact of Special Events
Any nonprofit knows the strain a fundraising event can put on an organization's staff, board and volunteers. Producing an innovative, appealing and successful event demands resources, creativity and organizational skills that are often out of the scope of most community groups. More importantly, the extraordinary effort it can take to plan and coordinate a successful fundraiser draws essential energy and resources away from the primary mission and goals of the organization.
This spring, Project Designworks is providing critical event development and management services to two worthy nonprofit organizations, The San Diego Human Dignity Foundation and Mama's Kitchen, thus allowing them to present first-class, effective and creative events that meet their goals while providing them time to continue the good work they do so well. Each event has captured the true essence of the organization, while assuring that funds are raised, guests have a good time while learning more about the institution, and staff and board remain sane!
Find out more about these worthwhile organizations and upcoming events:
The San Diego Human Dignity Foundation, "The Art of Generosity", May 19
Proceeds from this event will support the San Diego Human Dignity Foundation's efforts to bring about positive social change and improve the quality of life in the LGBT community through responsible philanthropy.
Proceeds from this event will support Mama's Kitchen, a non-profit organization that cooks and delivers nutritional meals to clients with HIV/AIDS and other critical illnesses throughout San Diego County,

Helping You Bridge The Gap
As with any business area, measurement is key to effective management. Here are three steps you can take to begin to measure your programs' bottom line business and social value:
- Identify Stakeholders: List any individual or group inside or outside of your company that may be affected by the initiative you are analyzing. (e.g. specific customer segments, employees, departments, local communities, advocacy groups, and governments.)
- Isolate Impacts: Consider how each stakeholder may be impacted by the initiative you are analyzing, either positively or negatively. The goal is to be comprehensive, including direct (resource demands, outcomes), indirect (upstream or downstream results), and even intangible (perception) impacts.
- Determine Bottom Line Effects: Review each stakeholder impact, and consider how it may in turn affect your company's bottom line, i.e. revenues (sales), costs (operations, productivity, recruitment, retention, risk, cost of capital), and social goals (mission).
