Prove It! Measuring the Social and Business Value of Community Involvement Programs
San Diego Grantmakers and the American Marketing Association-San Diego Chapter is sponsoring an overview and workshop on measuring the impact of existing or prospective community involvement programs.
The event is scheduled for Tuesday, March 18th from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. at the University of San Diego. This program is designed for those working in Corporate Giving, Community Relations, Corporate Social Responsibility, Human Resources, Investor Relations, Public Relations, or Cause Marketing at San Diego businesses.

The MeetGreenSM Calculator Web-based tool to gauge environmental impact of meetings
To assess an event's environmental impact, the MeetGreen Calculator compares practices of a specific event against the greenest alternative practices. Results provide a benchmark for future events and a comparison with other green events.
For example, environmental practices include use of locally produced food, selecting meeting sites where attendees can walk or use mass transit and diverting a significant portion of garbage by recycling and reuse.
The calculator is part of a suite of products and services that includes tools to use throughout the planning process to lessen detrimental environmental effects and a program to certify that an event is following the best green practices.
Together they are called MeetGreen and constitute the first move towards an industry standard for environmentally friendly meetings.

Board Governance Tip: Keeping Your Board's Information Secure
Most organizations routinely use email to communicate with board members and trustees, but sending sensitive information by email increases your organization's risk.
- Don't send board documents as email attachments - email is not secure, and emails with attachments often end up in spam filters.
- Use a secure web-based portal to store board information - storing board information online ensures board members have 24/7 access to important documents. Using a secure board portal ensures those documents remain secure.
- Look for SAS 70 Type II Certification (the kind banks use to store your financial data) for maximum security.
- Be mindful of who has access to your board's documents - keep a list of who has user accounts to your board's portal or website. Make sure you have agreed on the criteria for who should have access to the portal, and be consistent.
- Create a unique login/password for each board member - using a single password for all board members might be easier to remember, but it greatly reduces security. Make sure everyone has their own unique login/password that only they know.
- Change passwords regularly - encourage board members to change their passwords on a regular basis, for example, quarterly. Remind them to do so at each board meeting. Changing the password regularly increases security.
